Interstate 81 Truck Climbing Lanes Smyth/Washington Counties Virtual Design Public Hearing Tuesday, April 20, 2021, 5 p.m. https://www.virginiadot.org/i81SWVAtrucklanes Find out about the proposed construction of three truck climbing lanes on Interstate 81: northbound at mile marker 32.4 in Washington County, northbound at mile marker 39.5 in Smyth County, and southbound at mile marker 34 in Washington County. This project will involve a change and/or break in limited access control. The hearing will be held as a virtual/online event. VDOT representatives will make a short presentation beginning at 5 p.m. and answer questions for about an hour after the presentation. The presentation will be available for review throughout the comment period. Project information, including the National Environmental Policy Act document in the form of a Categorical Exclusion, is available on the project website (https://www.virginiadot.org/i81SWVAtrucklanes) or can be viewed by appointment after the hearing at 870 Bonham Road, Bristol, Virginia, 24201.
