Story
Tija Morrison
Tija Morrison has recently completed
her GED® with Mount Rogers Adult
Education Program.
Tija grew up in New York State but
currently lives in Carroll County, Va
with her husband and their four
children. She wasn’t a huge fan of
school and during a tough time as a teen, she made the decision to
leave school, but has always regretted this choice. Wanting to get her
GED® to be a good example for her children and to boost her career
opportunities, she reached out to MRRAEP.
She credits her grandfather for being a huge influence in encouraging
her to continue her education. He passed away last February and
he was in her thoughts as she worked through the program. Her
grandmother, husband, and children have all been cheering her on as
she works toward this goal.
Tija loved the flexibility of the program and being able to do classes
from her home. She mentions how helpful the staff at MRRAEP were
in her education journey, particularly how encouraging instructor Sue
Dickens was during this process, working around her schedule and
reminding her that she could do it. Tija credits Sue’s faith in her for
pushing her further in her education goals.
Tija is looking into furthering her education as she balances a job and
her family. She says it’s a whole different feeling having completed
the program and she’s more confident about her future prospects.
“Honestly if you put your mind to it you can do anything, and they
aren’t lying when they tell you that.”
