Words to the Wise
Romans 6 (copy)
Pastor Cliff Bowman
Bastian Church of God
After Paul tells us about justification by faith and how God’s grace is greater than our sin, he anticipates a question: if God’s grace is greater than our sin, would it be logical to say that the more we sin, the more grace we would experience? In Romans 6, Paul says that this way of thinking is absurd. Grace is not a license to continue in sin. Those who are in Christ have died to the old nature of sin and have been raised to walk in newness of life. Paul makes it clear that believers are no longer to live under the dominion of sin, because they now belong to Christ and are called to live for Him.
Through Jesus, we have been made free from the power of sin to become servants of righteousness. That does not mean we are perfect, but it does mean that sin no longer has to rule over us. Because of our union with Christ, there is a new life living in us. As we yield ourselves to God, our lives can produce fruit unto holiness, and that holy life points to the transforming power of the gospel. Romans 6 reminds us that the Christian life is not only about forgiveness, but also about freedom, obedience, and a growing likeness to Christ.
If You Are Not a Christian here are the ABCs to becoming one:
Admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior.
Believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again from the dead.
Confess your sins to God, ask Him to forgive you of your sins, and commit your life to follow Him.
