Marion's ArtWalk to feature Ned Johnson's artwork, music by Wayne Dunford
On Friday June 12, the Appalachian Spirit Gallery in Marion will hold their monthly Second Friday Artwalk event. Beginning at 5 p.m. the Gallery will hold the largest sale of Ned Johnson's small- and medium-size paintings and drawings, both unframed and framed, that has ever been presented.
Johnson, a founding member of the gallery, retired educator, and Wythe County native, has been displaying his work at the gallery since 2005.
Johnson has cleaned out all the artwork that he has had stored in closets at home and has brought down all the artwork stored upstairs at the gallery just for this sale. He said, "No reasonable offer will be refused," and he is now willing to part with paintings and drawings never seen before to the public.
The special music concert for June will feature Wayne Dunford, a longtime friend and performer at the gallery.
This concert will showcase Dunford's talents with an acoustic blend of folk, Americana, indie and old-time music.
More familiar behind drums accompanying a band, in recent years, Dunford has stepped out and is playing the music he enjoys the most on his guitar.
Growing up in Wytheville listening to the music of WYVE, Dunford has had a professional photography business in Blacksburg for 20 plus years. He now calls Wytheville home again with a photography studio there and enjoys farming at his family cattle farm.
The music concert is sponsored by The Bank of Marion.
Other work on display in June by Appalachian Spirit Gallery members include oil, watercolor, acrylic, alcohol ink and mixed media paintings; photography, felted works, wood turned items, engraved cutting boards, book arts, pottery, quilts, baskets, jewelry, and more.
The Gallery reception runs from 5-8 p.m. with the indoor informal concert beginning at 6 p.m.
The non-profit Appalachian Spirit Gallery is in one of Marion's historic buildings, 144 West Main Street, corner of Sheffey and Main streets, across from Royal Oak Presbyterian Church and next to the Marion Town Hall.
The Gallery's Second Friday ArtWalks will continue each month through December. All events are free and open to the public.
