The Floyd Chamber surprised retiring Executive Director John McEnhill during its annual meeting and membership dinner by announcing the establishment of the John McEnhill Altruism Scholarship in his honor.

A tribute to McEnhill’s dedication, knowledge and years of community service, nearly $2,000 was raised for the scholarship, as of Nov. 22, Karin Grosshans said, noting donations are still being accepted for the fund.

“The scholarship will be awarded to a Floyd County student who exhibits the qualities of altruism, volunteerism and compassion,” she said.

McEnhill, who has said his drive to serve the community was passed down from his parents, told community members, “It’s been an honor and a privilege” to be a part of the Chamber, and the scholarship is very “near and dear” to his heart.
