A Richlands mail carrier has been indicted by the grand jury in Tazewell County.

Richard Stephen Akers, 50, of Abbs Valley was charged under a sealed indictment July 11 with one count of grand larceny and two counts of forgery.  The charges were the result of an investigation by Sgt. J.W. Gilbert of the Richlands Police Department.

Gilbert said they resulted from things that happened while Akers was working at the Richlands Post Office.  Akers has been on administrative leave for several weeks.

He was served with the indictment July 21 and was released on a personal recognizance bond of $3,500. He has retained the services of Richlands Attorney T. Shea Cook and his case is scheduled for circuit court Aug. 1.
