Shirley Jean Brown Addison, age 67, of Pounding Mill, Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, in Abingdon, Va. after a brief illness. She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Bert E. Brown and Nannie Clara Ball Brown both of Steelsburg. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Richlands, Va. for many years and then on May 15, 2005 became a member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church in Cedar Bluff, Va. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed. She was a sweet, compassionate, and caring person who saw the best in everyone. Shirley had strong faith in God and was very involved with her church. She was Vice President of the United Methodist Women, a member of the Pastor's Parish Committee, and a volunteer for the Open Door Supper Team. Shirley had a smile that could light up a room. She believed in forgiveness, turning the other cheek, and rarely had a harsh word for anyone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Kenneth Addison, her son, Joseph Allen Addison, and one brother, Bert J. Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Jerri-Kaye Addison Mabe and husband Brian Mabe; her sister, Linda Stump; two step-sons, Kenneth Dewayne Addison and wife Jennifer Addison, Roy Lee Addison; one granddaughter, Brittney Mabe, seven step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren. Other special family members include Tom Addison, Lara Addison, Larry Addison, Melissa Addison, Katrina Caywood, Craig Compton, Rhonda Griffith, and Scott Stump. She had many other loving family members and special friends. A Celebration of Shirley's Life was conducted on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church, in Cedar Bluff, Va. with Pastor Annette Warren officiating. After the service, the celebration continued in the fellowship hall. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph Allen Addison Scholarship Fund, Southwest Virginia Community College, P.O. Box SVCC, Richlands, VA 24641, the Good Samaritan Food Pantry, 106 Veterans Drive, Richlands, VA 24641, or to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Research Fund, 5005 LBJ. Freeway, Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244. Cremation Society of Virginia/SW is serving the Addison Family.
