September 24- DMV Connect at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Thursday, September 24th from 10am-4pm. DMV will be at the library providing most of their services. Walk-ins welcome! The DMV will be closed from 12:30-1:30 pm.
September 24- Scrabble at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Thursday, September 24th at 1:30 pm. Enjoy a challenging and fun game of Scrabble with other word enthusiasts.
September 24- Not Just Anime Club for Teens at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Thursday, September 24th at 5 pm. Watch Anime shows and movies with friends, listen to music, talk about Manga, and learn about Japanese culture and language. Snacks and activities provided. Optional: Bring something anime or manga related for "show and tell."
For ages 11+. Meets the 4th Thursday each month.
September 25- American Red Cross at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Friday, September 25 from 11 am -3 pm. Save a life! American Red Cross blood drive. Walk-ins are welcome, or sign up in advance. Long sleeve t-shirts for all who donate!
September 26- Ukulele Learning and Jamming at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Saturday, September 26th at 10 am. Have a ukulele gathering dust at home? Now’s the perfect time to start playing! The first half hour will cover the basics or serve as a refresher. After that, enjoy a beginner-friendly jam session featuring classics from the ’60s through today’s pop favorites. Floyd’s favorite ukulele instructor, Mim, will lead the program. No experience is necessary. Please bring your own instrument if you have one. A limited number of ukuleles will be available to borrow. Ages 13 and up are welcome.
September 26- Living with Black Bears in Virginia at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Saturday, September 26th at 2 pm. Join the NRV chapter of Virginia Master Naturalists to learn about bear biology, what attracts bears to our yards, how to reduce human/bear conflicts, and what YOU can do to keep bears wild.
September 27 - September 28- A Really Big Book Sale at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Sunday, September 27th from 1-5 pm. and Monday, September 28th from 10 am- 3:30 pm. Can you ever have too many books? No, no you can't. See what treasure you can find in our two- day book sale put on by the Floyd Friends of the Library.
September 27- Plant Lovers Unite. It’s Plant Swap Time at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Sunday, September 27th from 1:30-3pm. It's the most wonderful time of the year! Plant swap time at the library! Houseplants, outside plants, garden pots, seeds, all the things! Bring something and take something new home with you. If you don't have anything to swap, come and take something anyway! See you on the pavilion!
September 28- Meditation at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on September 28th at 4 pm. Welcome to all: people who have never tried sitting meditation and people who have some experience in meditating and would like to share the experience and space with others. After a period of saying "hellos" and getting settled, we'll start a twenty- minute period of seated silence. After that, everyone is free to socialize and share if they wish. Chairs are available for folks who aren't comfortable sitting on the floor, but you're welcome to bring a yoga mat and/or cushion.
September 29- Game-On at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on September 29th at 3:30 pm. Choose from our variety of video, board, and card games to play. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
September 30-All Ages Storytime at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Wednesday, September 30th at 10:30 am. Share stories, rhymes, music, and movement, and a craft as a family. Develop early literacy skills and encourage a love of reading.
September 30- Big and Little Social Club at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library on Wednesday, September 30th at 11:15 am. Hang out and socialize after our regular story time with other caregivers and the little ones in their care. We'll put out toys for the tots although adults are welcome to play too!
