Tigers claw through Green Wave
Neither a Green Wave nor a downpour could stop a healthy band of Tigers as Honaker downed Narrows 42-6.
Parker Lowe, who had been out since week one, picked up where he left off, throwing for six touchdowns and the Tiger defense turned in one of its best performances of the year. “We obviously missed him. The kids missed him. His not being there was huge in our style of offense,’ Tiger Coach Aaron Lowe said.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak and set up a big game next week as the Patrick Henry Rebels come to Fuller Field. Honaker took the opening kickoff and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard.
Parker Lowe completed four passes to three different receivers in a drive that covered fifty-seven yards and took just 1:22. The last thirty yards was a pass to Jeremiah Rose for the touchdown. While he was happy to have his son back at the helm of the Tiger offense, Aaron Lowe was elated with the effort of his team.
“Our kids did a really good job, the last two weeks of preparing and going back to the basics and the fundamentals. The most important thing was fixing us and that was what we had to do.
We got a lot of people back that have had injuries and that always helps,’ he said. The Tigers had last week off and used the time to get well and do some extra preparation for Narrows.  While the offense was clicking except for a few dropped passes, the defense smothered the Green Wave, holding them without a first down for the first quarter and negative yards for most of the first half.
Narrows took advantage of a short field to get their only score of the game in the second quarter. Taking over at the Honaker 36, the Green Wave got a 14-yard run from Jarret Long to set a 22-yard touchdown from Jack Buckland at the 7:22 mark of the second quarter.
Lowe said the Tigers played complimentary football with the offense feeding off the defense and special teams making big plays. The Tiger kicking game pinned Narrows inside its five, twice setting up short drives for the offense.
Brayden Justus had a 55-yard interception return for a score and Levi Honaker picked off a Green Wave pass and also caught a touchdown pass. Peyton Duty blocked a Narrows punt.
The bulk of the fourth quarter was played with a running clock and the Tigers featured Colt Hubbard in the running game to close things out.
Both teams stand at 2-5 for season and need to finish strong to aid their playoff hopes. Narrows closes the season with Eastern Montgomery on the road and Craig County and Bath County at home.
In addition to Patrick Henry next week, Honaker has a trip to Northwood and closes the season with Rural Retreat at home. “They are all big games from here on out,’ Lowe said.  Â
