Emory & Henry kicks off new program to cover the cost of tuition for eligible Virginia students
This week, Emory & Henry University announced the launch of the “Emory & Henry Promise,” a program that will cover the cost of tuition for Virginia students who meet financial eligibility criteria. The launch of the tuition Promise builds upon and deepens the institution’s ongoing commitment to accessibility for students in Southwest Virginia and across the Commonwealth.
Under the program, new students who are Virginia residents with a household adjusted gross income (AGI) of $85,000 or less and a Student Aid Index (SAI) of 3,000 on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will receive federal, state, and University gift aid that will completely cover the cost of tuition. The tuition Promise applies to new undergraduate students and transfer students beginning Fall of 2026.
“The tuition Promise is one more way Emory & Henry is opening up pathways to education for more students,” said Emory & Henry University President Dr. Lou Fincher. “The unfortunate reality is that cost can often hold a student back from a transformative education. Not anymore. This program breaks down that barrier for many families and helps put an Emory & Henry education within reach for those who might not have thought it possible."
The tuition Promise significantly reduces costs for eligible students, provided all eligibility requirements continue to be met. With tuition covered, eligible on-campus students will only pay for food, housing, books, and fees. Eligible commuter students will only pay books and fees, with optional meal plans available.
Committed to Accessibility
This tuition Promise is believed to build on the University’s long-held commitment to accessibility and the reduction in published tuition price for the Fall of 2026, which was announced this past Fall. To help remove cost as a barrier to students exploring the school, the University reduced its published undergraduate tuition price from $39,975 to $19,990, bringing the price closer to what students typically pay after scholarships and financial aid are applied.
Emory & Henry will continue to offer academic merit, performance and affinity scholarships as well as need-based financial aid to all new and returning students that will reduce tuition even further, regardless of eligibility for the tuition Promise.
“There is nothing more important than an excellent education to take students anywhere they imagine,” said Fincher. “We are proud to be able to make that a reality for even more deserving students right here in Southwest Virginia and across the Commonwealth this coming year.”
