Indians end Pioneers
Jake Rollyson put on a show as Rural Retreat opened the season by routing Wythe County rival Fort Chiswell 56-12.
Rollyson rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries, caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Brody Allen and also returned a punt for a touchdown as the Indians rolled.
Rural Retreat led 42-0 at halftime.
Allen completed all three of his passes for 53 yards
Warren Robinson, Tanner Robinson, Bryar Hounshell and Eli Atwell also scored for the Indians. Kicker Trenton Davis made all eight of his extra-point attempts as well.
“Happy to see us come out with a lot of energy and enthusiasm,” said Rural Retreat coach Quinton Hensley. “Pretty pleased with our execution.”
Fort Chiswell scored two touchdowns in the last six minutes, the second of which came on the game’s final play.

Bland bests Castlewood
For one quarter, Castlewood took control.
However, the rest of the game belonged to the Bland County Bears.
Bland reeled off 34 unanswered points to clip Castlewood 34-7 in the 2026 season-opener for both teams.
Castlewood’s Jacob Farmer scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:35 left in the first quarter and the Blue Devils led 7-0 through the game’s first 14 minutes.
However, Bland County grabbed a 12-7 lead at halftime and then dominated the final two quarters.
Bland’s Caegin Browning rushed for 145 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns.
Colten Lambert and Vincent Ennis also scored for the Bears.
Harris Hart – a former player and head coach at Tazewell – leads Bland County’s program.
Farmer finished with 114 yards on 19 carries for Castlewood. Cody Smith’s debut at the helm of the Blue Devils was spoiled.
Castlewood committed three turnovers as the team’s losing streak stretched to 12 games.

Bobcats shut out GW
The Radford Bobcats emphatically earned a 40-0 win over rival George Wythe.
It was the first time GW had been blanked since a 31-0 setback to Graham on Sept. 13, 2024.

Maroons best Indians
Julie Patton dished out 20 assists and Mia Wolfe slammed down 13 kills as the George Wythe Maroons managed a win over Wythe County rival Rural Retreat.
Halen Perkins (14 digs), Baylee Campbell (10 assists, five kills, two blocks), Tatum Cornett (six kills), Emma Stiltner (six kills), Reese Patton (four kills) and Kylee Street (two aces) made valuable contributions as well.
Rebels topple Pioneers
Erin South dominated at the net to the tune of 16 kills as the Patrick Henry Rebels recorded a 25-11, 25-27, 25-7, 25-16 non-district win over Fort Chiswell.
South also served four aces and tallied two blocks.
Kinsley Counts (22 digs, six aces, four kills) and Mia Owens (27 assists, 11 digs and four aces) also played well for PH.
