Winter Reading: The Rural Retreat Public Library Adult Winter Reading Program will be Jan. 5 through March 20. Pick up a Book Log at the RR Library and each Book Log gives you another chance to win prizes. For more information, call 276-686-8337.
Valentine’s Dinner: Open Door Café will host a Feb. 14 Valentine’s Day Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Cost is $75 for two meals and $40 for one three-course meal.
Market Day: Wytheville Farmer's Market will have a Valentine's Day Market on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dirt Road Rising: The Wytheville Moose Lodge presents Holly Ann & Dirt Road Rising on Saturday, Feb. 14, 8 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple and this is open to the public.
Valentine’s Banquet: There will be a Valentine's Day Banquet at Fellowship Baptist Church at 1705 Peppers Ferry Road on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 5:30 p.m. The meal cost is by donation and there will also be a silent dessert auction.
Vocalist to Perform: MacDowell Music Club will meet on Monday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church on Main Street in Rural Retreat. Natalie Drummond, vocalist, will present the program. Everyone is welcome to this free program.
Social Services: A 4 p.m., Feb. 18 meeting is set for the Bland County Department of Social Services Office located in the Court House at 612 Main Street, Suite 208, Bland.
Prom Project: The South Virginia Prom Project to be held at West End Methodist Church at 1030 W. North Street, has been postponed to Friday, Feb. 20, from 3:30-6 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Benefit: A benefit for Cody Weatherman is set for Sunday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at the Ivanhoe Oddfellows Lodge Building on Painters Hill Road in Ivanhoe. The menu will be barbecue, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and a drink.
History Time: War & Style: the Virginia Backcountry During the Revolution will be held on Saturday, March 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wytheville Meeting Center. with speaker Jacob Morehead. Five local and regional speakers will focus on topics of clothing, furniture, retail and the Tories.
Radio Club: The Briarpatch Amateur Radio Club serves amateur radio operators in Southwest Virginia and northwestern North Carolina. All amateur radio operator are invited to the on-air weekly gathering held each Tuesday night at 8 p.m. with a frequency of 147.090+ and 103.5 tone. Cemetery Upkeep Contributions: Sharon Cemetery Association would appreciation any donations toward the cost of maintaining Sharon Cemetery in Ceres. Donations may be made in honor of or memory of family or friends. In addition to the annual maintenance fund, the late James Wilson, shortly before his death, established an Endowment Fund to which donations may be made. Checks may be made to the Sharon Cemetery Maintenance Fund or Sharon Cemetery Endowment Fund. All donations are sincerely appreciated and may be mailed to Sharon Cemetery Association, P. O. Friends of the Fort Chiswell Library: Friends of the Fort Chiswell Library meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the library building, located across from Fort Chiswell High School. The group is holding book sales, bake sales and various other fundraisers every first Friday and Saturday of the month at the library. Everyone is welcome to attend.
52 Bingo: The Max Meadows Ruritan Club hosts 52 Bingo every Saturday at at 123 Mockingbird Lane, Max Meadows. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. with bingo starting at 5:30 p.m. There is a guaranteed $1,000 jackpot and a $500 progressive game every week.
Free Adult Ed Classes: Mt. Rogers Regional Adult Education Program is now offering online or onsite classes for GED prep, College test prep, National External Diploma, National Career Readiness Certificate, and computer and job skills. Classes meet at WCC, Carroll Hall, Room 219 (VEC) Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., and at Wytheville Training and Cultural Center, on Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon, and 5-8 p.m.. Wednesday Fun Day: St. Paul Methodist Church Relay for Life team Offers Wednesday Fun Day. Do you like games? Cards? Making friends? If so, please join the St. Paul Relay for Life team at St. Paul Methodist Church on Wednesdays at 1 pm. Our Wednesday groups have the most fun, and new friendships are made every week. Bring a friend or come alone.

Cemetery donations: Donations are needed for the maintenance of the cemetery at Speedwell United Methodist Church. Any amount will be greatly appreciated. These can be mailed to the church at P.O. Box 14, Speedwell, VA 24374.

Spay-Neuter Transport: The Wythe-Bland Animal Welfare League offers a free transport service to the Margaret Mitchell Spay Neuter Clinic in Bristol on the first Thursday of every month. This free transport helps provide low cost spaying and neutering to the residents of Wythe and Bland counties for their dogs and cats. Financial aid is available for qualifying families.
