Indians shut out Maroons
Trever Shelton and Brody Childers got it done at the plate and on the mound as the Rural Retreat Indians opened the season by blanking Wythe County rival George Wythe 6-0.
Shelton went 3-for-3 and scored two runs, while pitching five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
Childers was 2-for-4, scored two runs and tossed the final two innings with two Ks to polish off the shutout.
Carter Haga and Mason Roberts added two hits apiece for the Indians.
Cade Bralley’s two hits were tops for GW.

Maroons blasts Rural Retreat
Morgan Layne was the winning pitcher and also went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs as the George Wythe Maroons opened the season by recording an 11-5 win over Rural Retreat.
Brooklyn Ross also homered for the Maroons.
Rural Retreat received two hits from Summer Shelton and two RBIs from Reagan Evans.

GW topples Narrows
Lucas Mabry scored three goals as the George Wythe Maroons notched a season-opening win over Narrows, besting the Green Wave 5-2.
Maroons shut out Tigers
Quorion Logan scored three goals and Isaac Smith dished out three assists as the George Wythe Maroons handled Honaker for a 5-0 non-district win.
Lucas Mabry and Dylan Mann also found the back of the net for GW. Jayson Lane and Reed Bralley also had assists, while Noah Houle was in goal for the shutout.
George Wythe girls stop Honaker
June Morrison and Zoey Childers scored George Wythe’s goals as the Maroons downed Honaker, 2-0.
Savannah Hodges added an assist.
GW (1-1) bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Pulaski County the night before. Freshman Julie Patton found the back of the net in that season-opening loss for the Maroons.
