Canes claim victory from the Fort
The Marion Scarlet Hurricanes finally got to celebrate a long-awaited win on the gridiron Friday night and the victory occurred in dominant fashion.
Cole Fedorchuk scored three touchdowns in three different ways as Marion dominated from the start in a 56-19 non-district victory over the homestanding Fort Chiswell Pioneers.
It snapped a 28-game losing streak for the ‘Canes, who won for the first time since a 22-20 victory over Virginia High on Nov. 3, 2023, in Bristol.
The triumph also marked Billy Testerman’s first as a head coach as he’s in his second season at the helm.
Fedorchuk had himself a night to remember as he returned a fumble for a touchdown, scored on a 44-yard run and also took a kickoff to the house.
Marion (1-7) jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter as Colby Davis caught two touchdown passes from Colten Jessee. The advantage was extended to 49-6 by the time halftime rolled around.
Ethan Hylton, Colton Ferland and Breckan White also got in the end zone.
Marion finished with 355 yards of total offense and didn’t punt once.
“The guys executed everything to perfection,” Testerman said. “This was a great win for our team and our program. I am very proud of our kids.”
Dakota Bailey threw three touchdown passes for winless Fort Chiswell.
Marion tries to make it two in a row next week against Richlands (1-7) in a Southwest District game.

Northwood (6-2, 2-1) clinched a Region 1D playoff berth and assured itself a second straight winning season.
It wasn’t easy as the Panthers erased early deficits of 14-0 and 21-7 to prevail.
“I like the way we battled back after halftime,” said Northwood coach Greg Prater. “We came out flat in the first half. We made some adjustments on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Hats off to Rural Retreat, they came out and played their hearts out. I am super proud of this team.”
