A Cedar Bluff woman charged in the death of an elderly man she was caring for entered her plea in Tazewell County Circuit Court on Aug. 3.
Christine Kay Meadows was charged in June 2022 with one count of murder and one count of abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death. She has been held in the Southwest Regional Jail since then.
Meadows, a licensed practical nurse, was charged in the death of her stepfather, Velmer Eugene “Gene" Stanley, whom she had been caring for since 2020. She pleaded no contest to the felony charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult resulting in death and the murder charge was dismissed.
Judge Jack S. “Chip’ Hurley Jr. accepted her plea and ordered a pr-esentence report. He scheduled sentencing in the case for Nov. 5. Abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death carries a sentence range of five to 20 years and or a fine of up to $100,000.
Stanley was taken by Richlands Rescue Squad to Clinch Valley Medical Center on May 25 of 2022 and was a patient there until June 26 when he died from complications of sepsis resulting from bed sores and a urinary tract infection.
A Pounding Mill woman was given a 10-year suspended sentence with five years of supervised probation after pleading no contest to involuntary manslaughter in Tazewell County Circuit Court Aug. 3.
Holly Gwen Lockhart, 36, was charged with second-degree murder in the death of her husband, Eric Calloway Lockhart in May of 2023. Charges of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling and child endangerment were dismissed.
The police report from the incident indicated a domestic incident escalated to the point a gun was fired. There were children in the home at the time the incident took place.Â
 No charges were filed at the time the shooting happened. An indictment was handed down against Holly Lockhart Oct. 12 of 2023, and she was arrested on Oct. 19. She was released on a $15,000 secured bond at that time.
Tazewell Young Life will hold its annual golf tournament fund raiser on Aug. 21 at Tazewell County Country Club. Registration is at eight am and play starts at nine. Entry fee is $75 per player or $300 per four-person team. For more information or to enter email sawyers1983@gmail.com.

THS football season passes
Season Pass and Parking Pass Update: Letters have been mailed to last year’s season pass and parking holders. Instructions on how to pick up your passes are included in the letter.
New pass purchases must be made in person on one of the following dates in the parking lot at Tazewell Primary School:

Please remember parking pass holders from last year must purchase your pass by 8/18 of it will be sold to someone on the wait list.

Fall soccer
The Tazewell Recreation Department is now taking registrations for its fall soccer program. The league is open to youngsters pre-k thru eighth grade. Last day to register is Aug. 10 and the cost is $35 per player. Late registration cut off is Sept. 1 and the cost is $40 per player. Family discounts are available. Open house
The Tazewell County Airport will be hosting an Open House on August 22. We will be having several activities including bounce houses for the kids, food trucks, aircraft displays, live music and will finish the evening with a free showing of the original Top Gun.

Car show
VFW post 9640 will hold its annual car show on Aug. 15 from 10 am to two pm at the Richlands Police Department. Â There will be dash plaques for the first 50 cars, top 15 awards, best in show car and best in show motorcycle.
