Chilhowie crushes Cornerstone
Jayden Schwartz went 2-for-3, scored three runs and tallied two RBIs as the Chilhowie Warriors opened the season by crushing Cornerstone Christian 14-3.
Freshman leadoff hitter Dylan Martin of Chilhowie singled, walked twice, scored two runs, stole a base and tallied two RBIs in his first varsity game.
Chilhowie also received two RBIs via Brandon Miller.
The Warriors blew the game open with an eight-run third inning.
Brent Kilbourne, River Nash and Bryce Robinson combined to handle the pitching duties in the win.
Zach McNulty had three of Cornerstone’s six hits.

Marion falls to Vikings
In the second part of a doubleheader for Tennessee High, the Vikings mashed Marion 16-2.
Hudson Pender (2-for-2, three runs, three RBIs) led THS at the plate, while Dayne Musick scored four runs and Austin Harbor hammered out two hits.
Tanner Jackson and Russell Blevins combined to pitch a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Blevins played in a state tournament basketball game the night before and started in both games in center field on Thursday.
Marion’s runs came in the fourth inning on Brent Tolbert’s two-run double in the fourth inning that plated Colten Jessee and Peyton Ratcliffe.

Warriors upend Marion
Chilhowie catcher Landon Bowman had a good day at the plate (3-for-4, two RBIs) and behind it as the Chilhowie Warriors whipped Smyth County rival Marion 15-1.
Bowman was the receiver of pitches from Noah Nash and Tyler Gonzalez as the pair teamed up to toss a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Chilhowie (2-0) also received a three-run triple from Gavin Walker. The Warriors host Grayson County on Monday.
Colton Davis had the lone hit for Marion (0-2), which committed five errors.

Northwood shut out by Cornerstone
The Northwood Panthers managed just two hits in a 6-0 loss to Cornerstone Christian.
Brody Waddle had both hits for the Panthers and he also stole a base. Northwood struck out 10 times against a pair of Cornerstone pitchers.
Rebels pound Richlands
Connor Brown went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Aidan Monahan homered as the Patrick Henry Rebels rocked Richlands for a 14-1 non-district win.
Monahan mashed a two-run homer in the first inning and then PH put the game away by scoring eight times in the second inning.
Kolby Hicks (2-for-3, two doubles, two runs, three RBIs), Hunter White (three RBIs) and Porter Blackwell (2-for-3, two RBIs) also powered PH.
Trajan Cannon went the distance on the mound, allowing five hits and striking out seven.
Gage Hylton had two hits for Richlands and helped the Blue Tornado avoid the shutout with a two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth inning that plated Reed Ratliff.

Grayson stomps Marion
Suzanna Barker had two hits and scored Marion’s only run as the Scarlet Hurricanes were smacked by Grayson County 11-1.
Sadie Amos added two hits for the ‘Canes.
Warriors hammer Marion
Emmaline Dowell had four hits, four RBIs and the winning pitcher also notched eight strikeouts as the Chilhowie Warriors opened the season by stopping Smyth County archrival Marion 8-4.
Denessa Martin and Lexi Williams added two hits apiece. Martin and Anna Ramirez played well defensively.
Marion received three hits from Abby Rabara and two hits from Spencer Parks.
Rebels sweep doubleheader with Tazewell
Patrick Henry swept Tazewell in a non-district doubleheader as Maggie Deel was victorious in her head-coaching debut with the Rebels.
PH took the first game 2-1 and the second 6-3.
Lindsey Widener had herself a day for the Rebels.
PH earned a walk-off win in the opener as Abbey Widener plated Lindsey Widener for the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Widener had led off the frame with a triple.
Widener had two hits and was also the winning pitcher. Braelyn Scammell added two hits as well
Widener went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs in the nightcap and was the winning pitcher in that game as well.
Warner Pyott had two hits for Tazewell in the first game, while Aaelyn Snapp went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs in the nightcap.
Blacksburg handles Panthers
To say that Bailee Nutter was strong in defeat for the Northwood Panthers on Friday would be an understatement.
She struck out 17 over six innings of work in the circle, while tossing a four-hitter in a 6-2 loss.
Nutter also had her team’s only hit.
Maddie Robinson and Anna Hoagland scored the runs for the Panthers, who fell in Nichole Poore’s debut as head coach.

Gate City, Marion tie
Ayden Seaver scored Gate City’s only goal on an assist from Aubrey Smith as the Blue Devils battled to a 1-1 tie with Marion.
Boys Tennis
Marion bests Floyd
The Hurricanes battled to a 5-4 win over Floyd County.
