Northwood falls to Titans
Baseball
Jacob Finch had two hits and three RBIs as Twin Springs topped Northwood for a 12-2 non-district victory.
Koletyn Keith’s two RBIs and Mason Culbertson’s two hits were also noteworthy. Isaiah Kiser and Kalub Mullins combined to pitch a two-hitter with nine Ks for the Titans.
Brody Waddle hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for Northwood. Brady Sanders had the other hit for the Panthers.
Warriors whip Blue Devils
Brandon Miller and Asher Chapman each had two hits and four RBIs as the Chilhowie Warriors walloped Grayson County for an 18-4 non-district victory.
Jayden Schwartz (2-for-4, two runs, two RBIs) and Bryce Robinson (2-for-2, three runs) also swung the bat well for the Warriors. Brent Kilbourne was the winning pitcher.
Maverik Goad had two hits for Grayson County.
Marion shuts out Northwood
I.J. Cregger tossed a five-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes blanked Smyth County rival Northwood 15-0.
Colby Davis went 2-for-3, scored three runs and tallied two RBIs for the ‘Canes, while Colten Jessee (three RBIs), Bryson Severt (two RBIs) and Caden Hash (two RBIs) also joined in on the offensive onslaught.
Northwood drew five walks, but the Panthers committed four errors.

Raiders best Panthers
Peyton Brummitte and Avery Fields combined on a three-hitter for J.I. Burton, while Nick Mullins drove in two runs as J.I. Burton took down Northwood 3-1.
Northwood pitcher Dawson Prater collected 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
Softball
Panthers pick up first win
Bailee Nutter pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Northwood Panthers earned a 4-1 non-district softball win over the Grundy Golden Wave on Tuesday.
Nichole Poore got her first victory as Northwood’s head softball coach after serving as an assistant for many years.
Taylor Collins had two hits and scored two runs for the Panthers (1-3), while Abby Blevins had a hit and drove in a run.
“It was exciting to get my first win as a head coach, but I was more excited for our team to get their first win of the season,” Poore said. “We continue to get better every time we play and I’m excited to keep seeing what this team can do throughout the season.”
Ryleigh Church had Grundy’s only hit and also scored the lone run for the Golden Wave.

Chilhowie shuts out Grayson
Emmaline Dowell pitched a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts as the Chilhowie Warriors whipped Grayson County for a 6-0 non-district win.
Lexi Williams and Denessa Martin each had three hits, while Madi Preston had a home run among her two hits.
Chilhowie avenged an earlier 8-5 loss to the Blue Devils.
Indians upend Marion
The Rural Retreat Indians erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning in notching an 11-5 non-district win over Marion.
Kynlee Lilly went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Indians (3-2), while Grace Houseman also drove in two runs. Lilly, Rylee Terry and Lexi Buckingham each scored two runs in the victory.
Sadie Amos had three hits for Marion, while Akaylia Phipps drove in two runs.
Union bests Rebels
Kaylee Rutherford went 3-for-3 as Union held off the Patrick Henry Rebels for a 7-4 non-district victory.
The U led 7-0 after five innings and then held off a late comeback attempt by PH.
Kynlee Johnson and Lexi Shupe each had two hits in the victory, while Braylee Rasnick drove in two runs.
Abbey Widener went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Patrick Henry, while Autum Parks had two hits and Brianna Garrison drove in two runs for the Rebels.
Canes get by Panthers
Suzanna Barker had three hits as Marion held off Northwood for a 6-5 non-district victory.
Sadie Amos added two hits for the Scarlet Hurricanes.
Northwood’s Bailee Nutter went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while recording a single-game program record 18 strikeouts in an impressive pitching performance.
Taylor Collins also had three hits for Northwood.
The Panthers got the potential tying run to third base with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Marion pitcher Abby Rabara worked out of the jam.

Panthers edge Castlewood
Taylor Collins and Anna Ellis each supplied two hits on Wednesday as the Northwood Panthers held off the Castlewood Blue Devils by a 9-8 margin in high school softball action.
Winning pitcher Bailee Nutter added a three-run home run for Northwood, which scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Anna Summers and Jozalynn Phillips led Castlewood with two hits apiece, with Summers collecting a home run.
Warriors overrun Cavs
Lexi Williams, Kylee Dancy, Emmaline Dowell and Madi Preston each delivered two hits as the Warriors took a 7-3 non-district win from Carroll County.
Dowell recorded seven strikeouts en route to the decision.
Vikings slam Rebels
Carleigh Warwick, Natalie Fields and Nila Proffitt all supplied three hits as the Vikings rolled to an 11-1 victory over Patrick Henry.
THS rapped out 14 hits in support of pitcher Carrington Harris, who earned the decision with a five-hitter.
Soccer
Gate City blanks Marion
Olivia Smith and Aubrey Smith scored goals as the Gate City Blue Devils mashed Marion 2-0 in non-district play.
Caroline Baker and Aubrey Smith had assists, while goalkeepers Avery Elam, Addison Weatherly and Neveah Neeley combined for the shutout.
