GW gets by Giles
Cade Bralley went 3-for-5, scored three runs and also pitched a scoreless seventh inning to notch the save as George Wythe defeated Giles 11-9 in Mountain Empire District play.
Cannon Woods (3-for-4, two RBIs), Luke Doyle (2-for-4, two RBIs), Ethan Bement (2-for-3) and Cayden Bement (two RBIs) also hit the ball well for head coach Donnie Gamble’s Maroons.
A five-run sixth inning put George Wythe (2-7) in control.
Josiah Schlueter and Miles Eppling homered for Giles.
Indians edge Marion
Brody Childers scored the tiebreaking run on Trever Shelton’s one-out RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Rural Retreat Indians rallied past Marion 6-5.
Marion led 5-0 after three innings, but Rural Retreat scored five times in the fourth to tie the score. The Indians then took the lead for good in the sixth.
Childers finished 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while Shelton tallied two RBIs. Carter Haga and Shelton pitched well in relief in holding Marion in check over the final four innings.
Marion received two hits from Peyton Ratcliffe.

Fort upends Auburn
Isaac Haislip and Owen Jackson held the Auburn Eagles scoreless and took sole position of first place in the Mountain Empire District and stayed undefeated at 9-0 overall. Both teams have switched places at the top of the Single A rankings this year as the Pioneers take over the spot this week by holding the Eagles scoreless for the first time this season at a score of 4-0. Starting Pioneer Pitcher, Haislip went five complete innings striking out six and surrendering only one run while Jackson came on for the final two innings striking out one and giving up one hit in the victory.
On his 16th birthday, Cam Ward led the Fort's offensive attack with a big hit down the right field line that plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Owen Jackson followed suit with a line-drive up the middle that plated the other run in the contest. Ward, Jackson, Haislip, Spencer Moser, Brody Musser and Cooper Davis each tallied hits for FC. Â
Colin Roark led the Eagles with two hits.
Pioneers pound Rural Retreat
Owen Jackson homered and doubled as the Fort Chiswell Pioneers recorded a 9-3 win over Wythe County rival Rural Retreat to improve to 10-0.
Gage Baker went 3-for-3, while Trever Shelton had two RBIs for Rural Retreat.
Softball
GW topples Giles
Madison Hatcher hammered a two-run homer and George Wythe scored four times in the top of the eighth inning in earning an 8-4 Mountain Empire District win over Giles.
Caroline Harris and Avery Cline added RBI singles in the eighth.
Brooklyn Ross finished 3-for-3 and scored twice for GW. Hatcher, Cline and Jadelyn Faulkner added two hits apiece.
Caroline Harris pitched a scoreless eighth inning in relief of Morgan Layne to record the save.
Tigers stop Indians
Sophie Campbell and Gracie Shelton homered as the Honaker Tigers topped Rural Retreat 12-7 in a Hogoheegee District contest.
Shelton hit two home runs the day before against Holston.
Campbell went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Shelton was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and also pitched a three-hitter.
Lincoln Bush’s two hits were also notable in the win.
Rural Retreat was led by Olivia Crouse’s two hits and two RBIs.
Each team committed seven errors.

Maroons beat Panthers
Caroline Harris struck out eight in three sterling innings of relief as the George Wythe Maroons notched a 4-1 non-district victory over Northwood.
Emma Faulkner doubled and scored a run for GW, while Madison Hatcher drove in two runs.
The Maroons improved to 8-1.
Northwood pitcher Bailee Nutter allowed just three hits and struck out 13, while she also had two hits and launched a home run.

Raelyn Huff pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and also hit a home run as the Lebanon Pioneers routed Rural Retreat 11-2.
Chloe Couch added two hits and two RBIs, while Chloe Romano homered. Abigail Skeen and Chadyn Musick contributed two hits apiece to the victory as well.
Kynlee Lilly and Summer Shelton drove in Rural Retreat’s runs.

Caden Horton, Quorion Logan and Lucas Mabry scored goals in George Wythe’s 3-1 win over Holston.
Goalkeeper Noah Houle made six saves.
Carroll edges GW
Madi Lane scored George Wythe’s only goal on an assist from Julie Patton as the Maroons fell to the Carroll County Cavaliers 2-1.
Giles, George Wythe split wins
The Giles Spartans blanked the George Wythe boys 3-0. The Maroon girls returned the favor, shutting out Giles 3-0.
Senior Zoey Childers, junior June Morrison and sophomore Savannah Hodges scored the goals for George Wythe in the Mountain Empire District victory.
Freshman Julie Patton and sophomore Madi Lane had assists for the Maroons.
GW shuts out RR
Quorion Logan, and Lucas Mabry each had two goals and an assist as George Wythe rolled to an 8-0 win over Wythe County rival Rural Retreat.
Jayson Lane, Trevor Berry, Maddox Shiver and Isaac Smith also scored for the Maroons.
