The Wythe County Sheriff's Department will again be participating in the National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Food City. They cannot accept needles/syringes or liquids.
The 2nd Annual Department of Wildlife Resources Wythe County Kids Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, April 25th, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wytheville Community Center Pond. This is a free event for children 15 years old and under. There will be Give-aways, Free Lunch for the kids and more. There will be a Brunch and Paint Party on Saturday, May 2nd, at 10 a.m. at Crockett Chapel United Methodist Church in Cripple Creek. This is hosted by Aiden Burkentine and the cost is $15 to paint a wooden cutting board. Great gift for Mother's Day.
Crab Hill Farm Barrel Race at Crab Hill Arena at 134 Fleming Road, will be held on Friday, May 1st, with Exhibitions at 5:30-8:00 p.m. and the show at 8:30 p.m. There will be a $5 Office Fee Per Entry, 90% Payback, Youth, Masters and Adults may roll from the open. PeeWee Free/No payback. Open $33+$2 IBRA Fee, Youth $23+$2 IBRA Fee, Masters $18+$2 IBRA Fee.
The Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department will have their Spring BBQ Fundraiser on Friday, May 8th, 3:00 p.m. until done. There will also be lunch orders available. The cost is $8 per plate or donation. The meal includes hand pulled Pork BBQ with homemade sauce, Coleslaw, Baked Beans and Dessert. This will be Drive Thru or Carry Out Only.
Wytheville Museums will have free admission on Saturday, May 16th, noon to 4 p.m. This will include the African American Heritage Museum on Franklin Street, the Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace on Main Street, the Great Lakes to Florida Highway Museum on Tazewell Street, Haller-Gibboney Rock House Museum on Tazewell Street, Thomas J. Boyd Museum on Tazewell Street and the Wythe County Decorative Arts Museum on Tazewell Street.
Blazin' P Meats will have their Grand Opening on Saturday, April 25th, 8 a.m. to noon. They will have USDA inspected , homegrown, farm fresh beef, pork, lamb, seasonings, produce, canned goods and jellies. This is located at 1690 Ridge Avenue, Crockett.
The Rural Retreat Elementary PTO will have a Spring Fling on Friday, May 8th, 5-7 p.m. There will be games, prizes, classic carnival games, fun activity booths, foam party, food, treats and lots of fun. Tickets will be on sale at the door and concessions will be available in the cafeteria.
The annual Davis Cemetery Dinner will be held on Saturday, May 16th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Huddle Community Center on Huddle Road. The cost of the meal is by your donation. All donations will go to the upkeep of the Davis Cemetery. Donations can also be mailed to Davis Cemetery/Fund c/o Teresa E. Aker at 1489 Old School Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.

Chautauqua's Brews and Bands Music Festival with Open Door Community and 5K will be held on Saturday, May 16th, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 650 W. Main Street. This will be at Open Door Cafe where 5 local bands compete to be crowned the best. Local breweries will be featured, fresh food from Open Door Cafe, obstacle courses, bounce houses and more.
Sheriff Anthony Cline announces a college scholarship for Wythe County Students interested in a career in Criminal Justice are encouraged to apply for the Virginia Sheriff's Institute Criminal Justice Scholarship. Deadline to apply is May 1st, and you can apply at vasheriffsinstitute.org/programs/scholarship.org.
I sure didn't like this cold weather we had and with the frost. I saw where it snowed somewhere in North Carolina. Oh, well May 10th, will soon be here.
