Fort rolls over Bland
Owen Jackson and Isaac Haislip each collected two hits a-piece in the 11-0 Fort Chiswell win over the Bland County Bears. Jackson also tossed four innings surrendering only one hit and striking out nine batters. Brody Musser came on in the fifth segment and retired three Bear via strikeout and only gave-up one hit.
Musser, Cooper Davis, Cooper Reynolds, Eli Eversole, and Mac Phillips each had one hit for the Fort. Phillips also swiped three bases as FC improved their overall record to 11 wins and 0 losses.
Dillon Hall and Darien Hall each notched one hit for the Bears in the loss.
Marion pounds Maroons
Colby Davis went 4-for-4, scored four runs and tallied two RBIs as the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes topped George Wythe 18-8 in six innings.
Marion trailed 8-4 after the top of the fourth inning but scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, six times in the fifth and pushed across five runs in the sixth.
Peyton Ratcliffe’s four RBIs, Bryson Severt’s three RBIs, Will Garrick’s two RBIs, Colten Jessee’s two RBIs and Caden Hutton’s two hits were notable for the ‘Canes.
Ben Garrison got the win in relief.
Eight players accounted for GW’s eight hits. Cayden Bement drew three walks and also hit a sacrifice fly in the loss.
Indians clobber Tide
Dawson Williams had two hits and was also the winning pitcher as Rural Retreat rolled to a 12-3 non-district victory over Galax.
The Indians set the tone shortly after getting off the bus, scoring seven times in the top of the first inning.
Brody Childers, Justin Walker, Hunter Wells, Trever Shelton and Mason Roberts supplied two hits apiece. Childers, Wells and Gradyn Gibson each tallied two RBIs.
Warriors handle RR
Brent Kilbourne led Chilhowie’s relentless offensive attack by going 3-for-4, scoring three runs and collecting two RBIs as the Warriors recorded a 14-4 Hogoheegee District win over Rural Retreat.
Chilhowie (10-2) finished with 18 hits and those knocks came courtesy of 10 different players. It was the sixth straight game that the Warriors have had a double-digit hit total.
Rural Retreat (6-6) led 4-3 after three innings, but Chilhowie scored four times in the fourth and pushed across six runs in the fifth.
Jayden Schwartz and Gavin Walker each had three RBIs in the win, while Brandon Miller and Landon Bowman drove in two runs apiece. Freshman Bryce Robinson pitched three scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts.
Hunter Wells and Gage Baker tallied two hits for Rural Retreat. Baker drove in two runs.

Maroons take out Galax
Ethan Bement went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs as the George Wythe Maroons mashed Galax for a 12-8 Mountain Empire District victory.
Cam Skeens added four hits and four RBIs for GW, which led 9-4 after three innings.
Cade Bralley had two hits and Beach Molinary scored three runs in the triumph. Luke Doyle was the winning pitchers.
GW outlasts Holston
A two-run double by Luke Doyle highlighted a nine-run first inning as the George Wythe Maroons outslugged Holston for a 13-10 non-district victory.
Brayden Frazier’s three RBIs and Beach Molinary’s three runs also merit mentioning. Cade Bralley added two hits and tossed the final 2 2/3 innings in relief of winning pitcher Cayden Bement.
Cam Skeens (2-for-3, two runs, two RBIs) also helped George Wythe avenge an earlier loss to the Cavaliers. The Maroons were coming off a 12-8 win over Galax the day before.
“We are swinging the bat well and our pitching is improving,” said GW coach Donnie Gamble.
Isaac Little and Collin Widener each went 3-for-4 for Holston.
Creed Maness went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Carson Rouse recorded two RBIs and Eli Tweed tallied two hits in the loss.

Softball
GW clobbers Marion
Madalyn Morris went 3-for-4 and homered twice as the George Wythe Maroons mashed Marion 14-4 in a non-district showdown.
Morris smashed a solo home run in the third inning and launched a three-run homer in the seventh. She also had an RBI single.
Morgan Layne (4-for-5, five RBIs) also had herself a day at the plate. Madison Hatcher, Temperence Smith and Avery Cline added two hits apiece for GW, while Emma Faulkner was the winning pitcher.
The Maroons scored seven times in the top of the seventh inning.
Sadie Amos had three hits to lead Marion.
Galax edges Indians
Galax plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning after Rural Retreat scored thrice in the top of the frame to conclude a wild non-district game with a 15-14 win.
The game featured a combined 29 runs, 29 hits and 19 errors.
The winning run scored on an error.
Kynlee Lilly went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for Rural Retreat, while Summer Shelton (3-for-5) and Maggie Hale (2-for-4, two RBIs) were also strong in defeat.
Warriors best Indians
Kylee Dancy and Lexi Williams each had two hits as the Chilhowie Warriors remained atop the Hogoheegee District with an 8-4 victory over Rural Retreat.
Williams also drove in two runs with Emmaline Dowell being the winning pitcher.
Reagan Evans had two hits for Rural Retreat.
Maroons blank Galax
Morgan Layne struck out 10 batters in spinning a two-hit shutout as the George Wythe Maroons blanked Galax 15-0 for a Mountain Empire District victory.
Layne also had three hits for GW, which put the game away by scoring nine times in the third inning.
Avery Cline supplied three hits and Madalyn Morris tallied four RBIs as the Maroons produced a double-digit run total for a third consecutive game.
Maroons whip Cavs
Morgan Layne homered, drove in three runs and also pitched three scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts as the George Wythe Maroons hammered Holston 10-4 and improved to 13-1.
Madison Hatcher had two hits and three RBIs for GW, while Madalyn Morris and Jadelyn Faulkner supplied two hits apiece.
It marked the fourth straight game that the Maroons have produced a double-digit run total.
Haleigh Dutton went 4-for-4 and scored twice for Holston. Amber Rolen’s three hits and Brynleigh Heward’s two RBIs were also noteworthy for the Cavaliers.

Warriors topple Fort
Madi Preston homered as Chilhowie flattened Fort Chiswell 7-3 in what was the 596th career victory for veteran coach John Sabo.
Kylee Dancy, Lyla Grinstead, Kaydyn Eller and Anna Ramirez added two hits apiece for the Warriors. Winning pitcher Kylee Dancy struck out 12.
Lily Goforth had two hits for Fort Chiswell.
Soccer
GW, Galax split wins
The George Wythe girls claimed a 3-1 win over Galax on the pitch.
Zoey Childers scored two goals and assisted on the other score as the George Wythe Maroons earned a Mountain Empire District win.
Madi Lane found the back of the net as well for GW.
The Maroon boys fell 8-0 to the Tide boys.
