The Rural Retreat Middle School Drama Club will present Footloose JR! on Tuesday, May 26th, at 7 p.m., and the tickets are $5 at the door.
Speedwell United Methodist Church will be having Homecoming on Sunday, June 7th, beginning at 9:45 a.m. with Rev. Ken Gillespie preaching. There will be special singing by the Rich Family and Heaven Bound. Lunch will be served after and everyone is welcome.
Join Wythe County Parks and Recreation at the Rural Retreat Lake for Movie Nights and this is free admission with movies starting at dusk. The movies are: May 23rd-Spaceballs, June 13th-The Three Musketeers, July 5th-Captain America: The First Avenger and August 1st-Zootopia 2.
Wythe County Summer Camp will be held on June 8th-18th, 8 a.m. to noon. Locations: Rural Retreat for students from Rural Retreat and Speedwell, Spiller for students from Spiller, Max Meadows for students from Max Meadows, Sheffey and Jackson. Registration is open for grades K-5 and lunch will be provided.
The District Three Governmental Cooperation will have a Senior Appreciation Day for Seniors in Wythe and Bland Counties on Thursday, June 11th, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Withers Park. There will be a Yard Sale at Country Club Estates on Friday, June 5th, and Saturday, June 6th, at Lakeview Drive, Arrow Lane and Country Club Drive.
There will be Free Summer Movies at the Wytheville Marquee Cinema on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in June and July with two movies to choose from. Concession specials are Jr. drink/Jr. corn $4, and small drink/small corn $8.
The Heritage Park Playground and Splash Pad will be having Opening Day on Saturday, May 23rd, 1-3 p.m. at South Main Street in Rural Retreat. Polar Express and Que N Cue BBQ will be there. Regular hours are daily 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Bands, Art, Bourbon and Ale Festival will be held on Saturday, June 6th, 2-8 p.m. at the Homestead at 1125 Tazewell Street. There will be summer fun, music, breweries and distilleries, food trucks, artisan market and children's activities. Free gate admission. Wristbands are available for a $15 donation and get a token for one free drink. Food is also available for purchase.
Rural Retreat Lake Memorial Day Weekend Events are: Friday, May 22nd, 2-6 p.m. tie dye craft corner, 4 p.m. chalk it up, 9 p.m. Space Balls movie at the pool field, Saturday, May 23rd, 4 p.m. Dive In and Cook-Out at the pool, 5 p.m. bike parade prep at Craft Corner, 6 p.m. Flashback The Party Band at Shelter 3, Sunday, May 24th, 1:30 p.m. Memorial Day Bike Parade.
The Rural Retreat FFA Greenhouse is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
-M- Arena Ranch Rodeo will be held on Saturday, June 6th, at 248 Creekside Rd., Rural Retreat. 3-Man team is $150/Man, Wild West Shootout, Barbed Wire, Stray Gathering, Cowgirl Triathalon $100, Youth Event $50. The Rural Retreat Lutheran Parish will have Vacation Bible School May 31st-June 3rd, at 331 St. Paul Lutheran Church Road. May 31st, Kick-Off will be held at the Rural Retreat Lake Pool at 6-8 p.m.
Rural Retreat United Methodist Church will have Vacation Bible School June 14th-18th, 6-8 p.m. at 503 Church Street, Rural Retreat. Thursday night for the closing will be held at the Rural Retreat Lake Pool with a cookout and free swimming. The theme is Rainforest Falls Exploring the Nature of God and this is for PreSchool to 5th grade students. There will be a light dinner served each evening.
New Hope Christian Academy is having a Hog Dog Dinner Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, May 30th, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out. This will be held at Dutch Miller Nissan at 1405 Main Street. Dinner plates will include 2 hot dogs, potato salad or chips, baked beans and a drink for $8. Individual items for sale is Hot Dog for $2, Chips for $2 and Drinks for $2.
If you are ready to put up Fall and Christmas decorations, Hobby Lobby has got you covered. I couldn't believe they were already putting these decorations up but it will be here before we want it to be for sure.

Lady Regulators are hosting a softball tournament at Ager Park on Saturday, June 20th, 10U & 12 U and Sunday, June 21st, 14U & 16/18U. Entry fee is $300, admission $12 a day or $20 weekend and 10 and under are free. There will be awards for 1st and 2nd place teams. There will be concessions on site.
Wythe County Administration Offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th, in observance of Memorial Day.
The kids and staff at Speedwell Elementary School was so excited to have the Rural Retreat High School Seniors have a walk-thru on Monday morning. Some of the Seniors were formally Speedwell Elementary Students. All classes had a drawing and message to hand out to the Seniors.
Asbury Church at 203 Church Street, Rural Retreat will have Vacation Bible School June 22nd, to June 26th, at 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dinner will be served, classes and tons of fun for ages two to adult.
There will be many things closed on Monday in observant of Memorial Day and a couple of those will be Wythe County Administration Offices and the Wythe County Trash Recycling Centers.
Enjoy a "Taste of Soul" along with a historic reenactment and inspiring drum beats at the Juneteenth Event at the Wytheville Training School Culture Center at 410 E. Franklin Street, on Friday, June 19th, from 3-5 p.m.
Youth Day Summer Festival will be held on Saturday, June 6th, at 4-8:30 p.m. with Fellowship, Music, Food and Fun. This will be held at the Rural Retreat Community Center.
Virginia Dental Association Foundation will have their annual Free Dental Clinic at the Wytheville Meeting Center on June 26th and 27th, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This will include free dental exams, cleanings, extractions, fillings, denture screening, X-rays and select root canals. This will be first come first served.
Brock Hughes Medical Center will host their 8th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 25th, with registration and lunch at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. A four person team cost $320 and this will include a BBQ lunch, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, snacks, green and cart fees. The 8th Annual Charity Cruise-In will be held on Sunday, June 21st, 12-4 p.m. at Walmart at 345 Commonwealth Drive. This is to raise proceeds for the Children's Miracle Network and this will be rain or shine. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks available. All donations are appreciated.
There will be a Public Safety Camp held June 29th-July 1st, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the Wytheville Police Department and the Wytheville fire and Rescue Department. Community Connections Day and Summer Concert Series will be held on Friday, June 5th, 4:30-9:30 p.m. in Withers Park. There will be live music, vendors, food and community networking. At 6-7 p.m. there will be live music with The Dimestore Cowboys and at 7:30-9:30 will be Aaron Walker.
