The Wytheville Police Department and the Wythe County Sheriff's Department will have a Wytheville/Wythe County TRIAD Meeting, Protecting our Seniors, on Thursday, August 27th, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wytheville Recreation Center, 333 Community Blvd. The Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society will discuss: know your rights, protect your assets, estate planning basics and there will be a question and answer session. There will also be a Drug Take Back and accepted items are pills, tablets and capsules.

Open Door Cafe will have a special farm-to-table dinner with Forge Appalachia, Filling Bowls from Farm to Table, on Saturday, August 29th, 5-8 p.m. Your ticket includes a handcrafted pottery bowl from a local artist, locally sourced meal, music by Spencer Roberts, cake walk with desserts and entertainment by Nate Montgomery.

The 6th Annual 9-11 Big Walker Lookout Tower Climb will be held on Saturday, September 12th, at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is a tribute to all First Responders. Hotdogs and BBQ will be for sale.

Evergreen Church at Evergreen Church Activity Center 534 Winding Road, Wytheville will have a Bean and Cornbread Supper on Saturday, September 19th, and this is by donation.
Barren Springs Volunteer Fire Department will have a Fish Fry on Sunday, September 13th. The menu will be a fried catfish plate, french fries, corn, green beans, hush puppies, slaw, dessert and a drink. Ham plate with with baked ham, french fires, corn, green beans, roll, slaw, dessert and a drink. Adult plates are $12 and a kids plate is $6. This is drive through only.

We are so glad to welcome our new nephew to the Bass family. Baby Cohen Ray Belton was born on Friday, August 14th, and weighs 7 lbs. 15 oz. Cohen is the son of our niece Katie and Austin Belton. GiGi, Mary Jo Bass McKenzie is in seventh heaven as this is her first grandchild. Spoil him rotten.
