Library Notebook: Mahjong Monday, Lego Club on tap
Before we even get into next week, your libraries are offering some fun and games today. If you’re into role-playing games, the Wythe County Public Library offers Dungeons & Dragons gaming today at 10 a.m., followed by the Adult Coloring Club at noon. The Fort Chiswell Public Library at Max Meadows has Storytime for preschoolers today at 11 a.m., its theme this week being Jungle Storytime.
Now, on to next week: Have you discovered mahjong, a game that originated in China in the 19th century, played with tiles? Drop into the Wythe County library for Mahjong Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. and play it. Also Monday, the Lego Club for kids is there from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Petals of Wytheville will present a program on flower arranging at the Wythe County library on Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. You can register for the class any time by stopping by the circulation desk or calling the library at (276) 228-4951.
The Wythe County library offers a board game night on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. This event is for all ages and for families.
Friendship Day Storytime for preschoolers is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Wythe County library. The Adult Coloring Club meets there Wednesday at noon.
Community Yoga with Megan Pullin is Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. outside on the lawn of the Rural Retreat Public Library. Join us on the lawn for a guided Yoga class with certified Yoga instructor Megan Pullin. Ages. 5 and up. Bring your own towel or mat.
It’s back to the Rural Retreat library on Thursday for Penguins Storytime for preschoolers, from 11 a.m. to noon. The Wythe County library offers a program that day from 4 to 6 p.m. on Craft Afternoon Blooming Poems. Turn the classic origami paper fortune teller into a poetic flower! Ages 7 and up.
The Fort Chiswell library has a live music program featuring Chase Altizer on Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. All ages welcome.
The Twisted Stitchers get together Friday at 2 p.m. at the Wythe County library to knit and socialize. The Rural Retreat library offers more Dungeons & Dragons gaming Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
And the always-popular Trivia Night returns to the Wythe County library on Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m. Participants have fun trying to out-guess one another on trivia questions.
The Online Cookbook Club is a continuing program at all libraries in the Wythe-Grayson region. Explore new recipes and connect with fellow food lovers through the Library’s Online Cookbook Club! This ongoing, self-guided program is open to all adults and requires no registration. Each month, the Library features themed cookbooks available for checkout. Participants are invited to select a recipe, prepare it at home, and take photos of their completed dish. Share your photos by email at wythegraysonlibrary@gmail.com to join the conversation and inspire others. Photos shared to the email will also be shared on our social media pages. Please state in the email that you want your photos shared. During June, we will be cooking recipes to celebrate National Culinary Arts Month and National Grilling Month. It’s the perfect activity for cooks of all skill levels, offering a flexible way to discover new cuisines, build cooking skills, and engage with the community—on your own time.
And of course the Summer Reading Program continues through July, where you can turn in book logs for every book your read or hear and have them entered in a drawing for prizes at the end of the program. You’re going to read, anyway, you might as well be eligible for some of the prizes, right?
The Wythe County library has some Juvenile Book Kits ready for checkout. Their titles are: Bunnicula: A Rabbit Tale of Mystery, by Deborah & James Howe; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl, and The Twits, also by Roald Dahl.
