Ivanhoe Fire Department will have a Donnie Widner Memorial Fundraiser on Saturday, July 18th, 12-5 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Fire Department. There will be baked goods, hot dog sale, silent auction, raffle drawings, kids water play area, face painting and vendor tables. All proceeds go to the Ivanhoe Fire Department.
The First Baptist Church in Speedwell will have Vacation Bible School with Kingdom Seekers on July 29th-31st, 7-9 p.m. There will be classes for all ages, lots of fun activities and crafts.
The Lions Club Charity Carnival will be held July 14th-18th, at Wytheville Community College Campus and there is no admission charge. Gates open at 6 p.m. and rides start at 6:30 p.m. till 10 p.m. Tickets are $1.25 each, 24 for $25, 72 for $60 and rides require 3 or more tickets each. Ride all night wrist bands are $30 and can be purchased online.
Rural Retreat Heritage Day will be held on Saturday, July 25th, at 1 p.m. at the Pepper Stage, 210 E. Railroad Avenue. At 1 p.m. will be kids activities and vendors, 5 p.m. Conway Twitty Tribute, at 6:30 p.m. Deadman's Hand and at 8:15 p.m. is Diamond Rio. This will be free admission and there will also be vendors onsite.
The RRHS Basketball Team is in need of drink donations of canned sodas and bottled water to sell at the Rural Retreat Heritage Day Festival. Donations can be dropped off at Hilltop Carryout by July 23rd. All proceeds help fund summer league, equipment, warmups and more for the boys basketball program.
First Annual Pursuit Youth Car Show & Hot Dog Meal will be held on Sunday, July 12th, at 4 p.m. at St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church at 796 Ivanhoe Road, Max Meadows. There is a $10 entry fee and there will be a First Place Prize for Best in Show.
Dunkley and Maloskey Auction will be selling the property of Tom Vaughan on CC Camp Road in Cripple Creek on Saturday, July 25th, rain or shine. The property borders Jefferson National Forest, has road frontage, mountain stream and is fenced, a total of 84.968 acres. Wythe County Parks and Recreation will have free Summer Crafts at Ager Park through July, on Mondays at 3-5 p.m. and Tuesdays at 6-8 p.m. No registration is required, just drop in and get creative.
Mount Rogers Community Services will have a Special Olympics Field Day on Thursday, July 23rd, noon to 4 p.m. at the Wytheville Community College Field. There will be track and field, softball, basketball, soccer and more. People with disabilities can enjoy athletics in an organized setting.
Wythe County Parks and Recreation will have Adult Open Play at Ager Park and this is free and no registration is required. This will be held through July with Wiffleball on Wednesdays at 5-9 p.m., Cornhole on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. until finished and Kickball on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. until done.
There will be an Estate Sale on Friday, July 24th, at 9 a.m. at 7689 W. Lee Hwy, Rural Retreat. There will be antique and vintage furniture, vinyl records and players, 50's jukebox, signed items from Ralph Stanley, country living decor, china, dishes, glassware, coal mining items, tools, plumbing, electric mechanic and more.
Attention Parents/Guardians, Grab-n-Go Meal Boxes will be available for pickup every Thursday through August 10th, 10 a.m. to noon at Open Door Community. These meal boxes are a great way to help keep children fed and healthy during summer.

Crockett's Chapel United Methodist Church Youth in Cripple Creek will be making apple butter this fall and are in need of pint and quart jars. All donations of jars is greatly appreciated.
The Rural Retreat Youth League Football Camp is July 20th-23rd, at 6 p.m. at RRHS Stadium and the cost is $20. A T-shirt will be provided for each player.
Rural Retreat High School Lady Indians Basketball presents Summer Hoops on July 20th-21st, 8-9:45 a.m. for 4th-5th grade girls, 10:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. for 6th-7th grade girls at the RRHS Gym. This is a free event with donations accepted.
Wytheville Training School Cultural Center's 5th Annual Street Fair will be held on Saturday, July 25th, at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be food vendors, music and live entertainment.
The Bass and Burcham Family got together last Saturday for a 4th of July cookout at the new home of Terry and Tina Bass in Galax. Their home is beautiful and of course the food was great to. Everybody had a good time and hope to get together again soon.
Wythe County Public Library is having Mahjong Monday at 4 p.m. on July 13th, and this is for beginners and experienced players. The 1st Annual Softball Game between the Wytheville Community Hospital and Wythe County First Responders was so much fun and everyone had a great time. The Wythe County First Responders came out as winners and already looking forward to next year.
I cannot believe this year is already half gone. The days are starting to get a little shorter and I hate that so much. I wish the daylight hours were long all the time. It makes winter seem even harder with the shorter daylight. It's also hard to believe school starts in one month.
