Carliss V. Earley MARION, Va./KINGSPORT, Tenn. Carliss V. Earley, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013, at Asbury Place, Kingsport, Tenn. She was born in Derby, Va., February 14, 1926. She attended Appalachia high School and graduated from Emory and Henry College. After teaching in Smyth County school system for 42 years she retired and relocated to Kingsport, Tenn. to Asbury Baysmont and Steadman Hill. She continued to be an avid volunteer teacher at Washington Elementary and received the Volunteer Teacher of the Year Award. Carliss was a wonderful storyteller. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bertie Mullins Earley; her sister, Pauline "Pete" Kilgore; and brother, Elmo L. Earley. She is survived by her nieces, Vicki K. Neeley (Donny), Mount Carmel, Tenn., and Cindy K. Ashley (Dennis), Big Stone Gap, Va., brother, Ralph J. Earley, Kingsport, Tenn.; nephew, Ralph Todd Earley; great nephews, Chris Ashley (Sabrina), Duffield, Va., and Dustin Neeley (Laurie Ann), Louisville, Ky.; and several great-great nephews and nieces. Family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., Big Stone Gap, Va. with services conducted 6 p.m. at the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dustin Neeley and the Rev. Terry Goodman officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2013, at Glencoe Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Gilliam Funeral Home 10:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery in procession. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
