Roberta "Bert" Lowe Williams, 97, widow of Timothy Williams, died on June 14, 2018, at the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, Burlington, N.C. Mrs. Williams was a native of Tazewell County, Virginia, and was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Pearl Ellis Lowe and Mathias Harmon Lowe, her seven sisters, and two brothers. She was a graduate of Richlands High School and was employed as a telephone switchboard operator prior to her marriage in 1951, to Mr. Williams of Matoaca, Virginia. They lived in the Washington, D.C. area and Williamsburg, Virginia, before retiring in Petersburg, Virginia. They made regular visits to her family in Richlands, Virginia, especially in the summer months. Later in life, they moved to the Imperial Plaza retirement community in Richmond, Virginia, where she continued to live following her husband's death until 2014, when health issues prompted her move to Burlington, N.C., the home of her niece, Janie Whitt Sellers and husband, David. She was an excellent cook, a meticulous homemaker, and a devoted, selfless caregiver to her husband and many other family members and neighbors, especially those in the younger generation. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, in Burlington, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018. The family would like to thank the staff of Liberty Commons skilled nursing unit, Home Instead, Terri Crouse, the Hospice Home, and the visiting ladies and clergy from First Presbyterian Church for their kindness to Bert during her time in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215, First Presbyterian Church, 508 W. Davis Street, Burlington, NC 27215, or the Gethsemane Church Back Pack Program (helps children in need with food for weekends), 2902 Clinch Street, Richlands, VA 24641.
