Clyde H. King Jr. ABINGDON, Va. Mr. Clyde H. King, Jr, 87, a well-known resident of Abingdon, died Friday, September 13, 2013, at Continuum Courtyard Healthcare of Johnson City. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on November 12, 1925, a son of the late Clyde Herman King Sr. and Vivian Pruner King. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Bill King. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Navy. Mr. King was retired from the finance department of General Motors. He was a lifelong Republican, and had served two terms on the Washington County Board of Supervisors. Mr. King was an active civic leader, and lifelong member of the Civitan Club. He was a member of the Civitan Clubs in Maryville, Tenn., Johnson City, Tenn., and Abingdon. He was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Louise King of Abingdon; two sons, Bob King and wife, Susan of San Antonio, Tex., and Brad King and wife, Amy of Saltville,; grandchildren, Tennison King, C.C. King, Matthew Bradley King, Jonalan King, Bailey Nicole Counts, and Addison Paige Counts; and one brother, Allen King and wife, Jan of Maryville, Tenn. Funeral services for Mr. Clyde H. King Jr. will be conducted 2 p.m.., Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Abingdon United Methodist Church. Entombment services will follow at the Knollkreg Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the church. Active pallbearers will be Brad King, Matthew King, David Clark, Jim McCall, Bob Legard and Hugh Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Phillips, and members of the Civitan Club. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101, East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, in memory of Mr. Clyde H.
