Lillie Gunter Walker, age 87, of Wytheville, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Lillie's lifes work was her family who adored her, she was a remarkable woman who was loved and admired by all who knew her and was an avid gardener who loved flowers. Lillie loved vacationing with her daughters and grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Nellie McGuire Gunter and a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Walker; beloved son, Steve W. Walker; four sisters and one brother. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Darrell Blankenship of Abingdon, Melinda and Danny Taylor of Wytheville, Teresa and Danny Sowers of Christiansburg, Tammy Walker and Gordon Shumate of Wytheville, and Judy and Doug Jarvis of Rural Retreat; grandsons, Andy Walker of Blacksburg, Derek Karr of Christiansburg, Travis Jarvis of Rural Retreat, and Jason and Leanne Jarvis of Rural Retreat; great-granddaughters, Kelley Jarvis, Allyson Jarvis and Isabella Albert; sisters and brother-in-law, Jean and Frank Reynolds of Pulaski, and Sue Morris of Summit Point, W.Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sonny and Lora Gunter of Christiansburg, Paul and Sylvia Gunter of Christiansburg, and Jimmy and Carol Gunter of Christiansburg; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the West End Cemetery, conducted by Bill Hankins and The Reverend Jack Rutherford. Friends may visit family at Lillie's home at 190 Umberger St., Wytheville, VA 24382, Monday, October 5, 2015 after 6 p.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Southwest Virginia and to all of the Medical Professionals who cared for her. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
