Cecil C. "Scotty" Lawson Jr., age 75, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at his home on South Holston Lake surrounded by his loving family. Scotty was born in Raven, Virginia and was the son of the late Cecil C. Sr. and Edna Altizer Lawson. Scotty was former resident of Richlands, Virginia and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a Richlands High School Class of 1961 graduate and a Class of 1966 graduate of Virginia Tech. Scotty taught at Richlands Junior High and Richlands Middle School where he coached football and basketball. He was later an assistant football coach at Richlands High School. Coaching was the joy of his life. Scotty later owned and operated Prestige Ford and AAA Rental and Storage. Scotty served as a member and chairman of the Tazewell County School Board, the Tazewell County Country Club, and was an ardent fan of Virginia Tech football and the Atlanta Braves. Scotty and Toni were married for 48 years and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends on the lake and at Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. Scotty loved beach music and his oldies. Scotty was an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed creating furniture for his home and children. His wit and sense of humor endeared him to many. Scotty loved life, his wife Toni, his three daughters, and his eight grandchildren. He was a most loved Grandy and "Da". He will be missed by many friends and his puppy Mr. Jinks. Survivors are his wife, Toni Lawson; daughters, Amanda Scott Lawson Pillion and husband, Todd, of Abingdon, Va., Whitney Lynn Lawson Belt and husband, Randy, of Johnson City, Tenn., Mary Cecille Lawson Skeens and husband, Josh, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Wanda Lawson of Richlands, Va., Donna Lawson Whittington of Doran, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Virginia Rachel Pillion; Todd Edward "Teddy" Pillion, II, Henry Scott Pillion, George Douglas Pillion, Riley Lynn Belt, Ryan Ann Belt, Mary Grace Skeens, and Mildred Kathryn "Millie Kate" Skeens; special friends, Trish Hill and Lorraine Farquharson Memorial services for Scotty Lawson will be conducted Monday, June 24, 2019, at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 402 Suffolk Ave., Richlands, Virginia 24641 with the Rev. Rod Tkach, the Rev. Mike Rife, the Rev. Coy Richardson, and the Rev. Craig Barber officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Hurst, Larry Worrell, John Rosenbaum, Joe LeBarbera, Dennis Vaught, James Belcher, Harold Helton, Glenn Harrison, George McCall, Jack Pyott, GT Harris, Harold Richardson, Steve Miller, and Tom Garges. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 402 Suffolk Ave, Richlands, Virginia 24641 or St. Judes Children Hospital.
