James "Jim" Albert Shupe Sr. CHILHOWIE, Va. James "Jim" Albert Shupe, Sr., age 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. Mr. Shupe was born in Chilhowie, to the late Albert Young and Martha Overbay Shupe. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Eva Shupe; brothers, Robert Shupe, Henry Shupe, and William Shupe; and his sister, Ruth Osborne. Jim worked for over 30 years in road construction. In the last 30 years he has been a proud cattle farmer here in Chilhowie. He always raised a big garden each year. He was especially proud of being a pappaw. He is survived by his son, James Shupe, Jr. and wife, Emma of Waverly, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Shupe, and Ginger Ellen Shupe; sisters-in-law, Bernice Hensley and husband, Lowell, and Geneva Pennington, several nieces and nephews; and his special friend and caregiver, Clara Surber. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016, from the Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor Paul Shallenburg officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the Grosses Creek Church Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com.
