The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will meet in Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12 in Glendale, Ariz.
The Chiefs won the AFC Championship Game, 23-20, Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals on a Harrison Butker 45-yard field goal with 3 seconds left to advance to their third Super Bowl in four years.
The Eagles won the NFC title game earlier Sunday by beating the San Francisco 49ers, clinching their spot in the big game for the first time since winning it all in Super Bowl LII following the 2017 season.
Philadelphia opened up as 2-point consensus Super Bowl favorites Sunday night at most sportsbooks. It’s the 18th time in 19 games this season the Eagles have been favorites.
As of early Monday morning, the Eagles are 2-point favorites at DraftKings, Pointsbet, BetMGM and Caesars. FanDuel has Philly as a 1.5-point favorite.
The Chiefs were playing in their fifth consecutive conference championship game. They won Super Bowl LIV in 2019 and made it back again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
This was the first time Kansas City beat Cincinnati in four tries.
Philadelphia, the NFC’s top seed, hasn’t been challenged in its postseason run, beating the New York Giants in the Divisional Round, 38-7, then the 49ers, 31-7, on Sunday.
San Francisco’s starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who started the season as the third-string signal-caller, was injured in the first quarter Sunday and replaced by Josh Johnson (the fourth-string QB). But Johnson suffered a concussion in the third quarter and Purdy, whose throwing arm was injured, reentered, but could only hand the ball off.
Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes proved why he’s the frontrunner for the MVP award, leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl playing with a high-ankle sprain. His scramble, which ended with him being hit out of bounds causing an additional 15 yards tacked on to the end of the run, set up Butker’s game-winner.
On basically one leg, Mahomes threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns.
