“National Days of Prayer”
The opening scene in the movie, War Room, shows military leaders around a table with maps, strategizing together. We hear this: “To win any battle you’ve got to have the right strategy and the right resources.” That is true, not just in physical combat, but also in spiritual warfare. I believe if the Devil is strategic in his attacks against us then we need to be strategic in our attacks against him.
Evangelist Leonard Ravenhill, in his book Why Revival Tarries, writes: “We need to stop praying with a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ attitude...realize the only power that God yields to is that of prayer! We will display our gifts, air our political views, write books to correct each other... but who will storm Hell’s stronghold? Who will deny himself good food, good rest, good company that Hell may gaze upon him wrestling and embarrassing demons, liberating captives, depopulating Hell, and rescuing the perishing? At God’s counter there are no ‘sale days,’ for the price of revival is ever the same--travail (in prayer)!”
This year’s observance of the National Day of Prayer will take place on Thursday, May 7th with a live national broadcast of the Day of Prayer service at 8 p.m. ET. The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for our nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Since its inception, this day has continually united Americans from all socio-economic, political, and ethnic backgrounds in prayer while also encouraging personal repentance and righteousness in the culture. The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans and is a day that transcends differences, bringing together citizens to celebrate our most beloved freedom: the freedom to humbly come before God and seek His guidance in prayer.
This year’s theme is: “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations.”It’s based upon 1 Chronicles 16:24 which says:“Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” (NASB) National Day of Prayer Task Force President Kathy Branzell says: “The theme is inspired by a passionate prayer of Thanksgiving, prayed by King David in 1 Chronicles 16 after bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This chapter records Israel celebrating the return of the Ark after being separated for 70 years.”
The live national broadcast will be a 90-minute virtual prayer gathering for all believers across America and around the world to join together in prayer and worship, with prayers from Christian leaders covering every area of influence. You can find more information about local prayer meetings near you and watch the live of Prayer service at: www.NationalDayOfPrayer.org.
This year, America is celebrating its 250th anniversary as a nation. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump announced at the 74th annual National Prayer Breakfast that on May 17, 2026, there will be a major prayer event held on the National Mall to “rededicate America as one nation under God.”
Today there is so much violence and division throughout our land that needs to come to an end. So wherever you are on May 7th & 17th, let’s join together and see what the power of prayer can do for our nation!
