WCC to host Bluegrass & Old Time Jamboree
The Wytheville Community College (WCC) Jamboree will host The Hooligans and Common Thread on Saturday, Sept. 19, with an evening of traditional Appalachian music.
The concert begins at 7 p.m. in Snyder Auditorium. Music lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening of live entertainment at the WCC Jamboree to hear sounds from the musical heritage of Southwest Virginia.
Honoring the old-time and bluegrass music of past generations, The Hooligans strive to bring the sounds of toe-tapping dance tunes and sweet songs to their audiences. Levi Funk on fiddle, Garret Wyatt on bass, Sawyer Moxley on banjo, Jack Circle on bluegrass banjo make this band from Grayson County well-known among area music conventions.
Common Threads is a fourth-generation family band that blends traditional Appalachian roots, bluegrass, and Old-Tyme Americana into a unique "folk-grass" style. Anchored by core members Lindsey Clayton and Loriann Clayton Bethard, the group performs a diverse repertoire ranging from classic folk standards to Carter Family favorites.
Seating for the event is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is free and open to the public; however, donations will be accepted to help defray the travel expenses of the bands.
