My Favorite Preacher
My favorite preacher is_______________. I left it blank because it does not matter. I have to guard against having that as my focus.
In Corinth there were saints who liked Paul. Some liked Peter. Others liked Apollos. And the super spiritual said they followed no preacher but Christ. They turned out to be the most unspiritual. You can find that account in I Corinthians 1:11-13 and I Corinthians 3:1-9.
Paul explains that preachers are people whom God calls, and it is God who equips them with the abilities they have. God uses some to plant the gospel seed and He uses others to water it. But it is God who makes it grow.
Paul also tells us that we are all laborers together with God. We are God’s husbandry; we are God’s building. We are working together to build up the Kingdom of God. Another place in Corinthians tells us, we are epistles read of all men.
There was a sign that read, “There is no limit to the good that a man can do, if he doesn’t care who gets the credit.” Sometimes preachers can be guilty of currying the favor of people. Then sometimes people can inadvertently make a preacher feel more important than he or she really is. The cure for that is just do what God has called you to do and don’t worry about who gets the credit. Ultimately it is God who is to be praised.
Now this is not to say we should not compliment our preachers or others on a job well done. The Bible encourages us to praise other people. Proverbs 27:2, “Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth: a stranger, and not thine own lips.”
So, there is nothing wrong in encouraging your preacher. God knows we need it. But realize that preachers are people whom God uses for a specific purpose. In fact, we are all called to be workers for God. Just do what is right and in the end may God get all the glory.
Here are the ABCs to salvation if you have never trusted Christ as savior.
ADMIT that you are a sinner.
BELIEVE that Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead.
CONFESS your sins to God and ask His forgiveness.
