Two Maroons named to All State first team

A pair of Maroons were selected for the All State girls basketball girls team.
Only those players selected to all-region first teams are eligible for selection to the All-State team. Each All-State selection committee comprises eight basketball coaches (two from each Region).
Senior Makaylan Luttrell and her teammate junior Caroline Harris were each picked for the first team.
Other Mountain Empire players named to the first team were Galax junior Keely Bartlett and Maroon Tide freshman Rylee Hawks, who was also named the Class 1 Player of the Year.
Galax coach Patrick Puckett was picked as the Class 1 Coach of the Year.
The 5-foot, 11-inch Hawks averaged 20.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.0 assists per game, while leading the Maroon Tide to the state finals and a 57-39 win over the Luray Bulldogs at the VCU Siegel Center.
Puckett led his Maroon Tide to a 26-3 record and the school's first state championship with a 57-39 win over Luray in the Class 1 finals.
