The Annual Lord's Acre Sale will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rural Retreat Community Center. There will be homemade items, handmade items, homegrown items, and there will be gravy biscuits, country ham biscuits, hot dogs and drinks.
Rural Retreat United Methodist Church will be selling apple butter and the quarts are $9 and the pints are $5. You may order by calling the church office at 276-686-6429 or from any church member.
Autumn Blaze to Kick off Fire Prevention Week will be held at the Rural Retreat Lake on Friday, October 2nd, 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, October 3rd, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be Fire Trucks, Emergency Vehicles, Heavy Equipment, Specialty Vehicles and more. There will also be a Trick Or Treat Event and live music by Wylee & The Coyotes, 21 Blackbirds and AI G and Friends Band.
Rural Retreat United Methodist Church Annual Youth Flamingo Fundraiser will be held on September 25th to November 1st. You can send a Flock of Flamingos to someone's yard for $25 a flock. All proceeds support the Youth Resurrection Trip. You may call the Church Office at 276-686-6429 for more information.
Sunny Hills Church at 2973 North 4th Street, will have a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 24th, 5-7 p.m. There will be games, food, inflatables, hayrides, cake walk, chili cookoff, face painting, popcorn, lots of candy and prizes and a children and adult costume contest. This is a free event.
VHSRA Beef Raffle Tickets are $20 each for a drawing on November 13th, and there will be two winners and each will receive a half beef sponsored by Phipps Cattle Co. & Blazin' P Meats of Rural Retreat. Ivanhoe Fall Trade Day will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Jubilee Park/Show Grounds. There will be farming supplies, horse tack, clothes, jewelry, baked goods, produce, crafts and animals are welcome. The spots will be $10 and there will also be concessions available.
There will be a Fall Neighborhood Yard Sale on Saturday, October 10th, at 7 a.m. at the Country Club Estates.
Adopt A Grandparent for Christmas at Holston Health and Rehab for only $20 so that each resident will receive a stocking full of goodies. There are 181 residents.

Bethel Methodist Church at 2342 Peppers Ferry Road, will have a Hot Dog Dinner on Saturday, October 3rd, 5-7 p.m. The menu will be hot dogs, BBQ, mac & cheese, tater tots, beans, slaw, brownies, cake and ice cream for a donation.
Ivanhoe Church Hill Yard Sale at 856 Painters Hill Road, will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and there will be ham biscuits, coffee, apple butter and a bake sale.
There will be a Benefit Dinner for Jackie Baker, who is fighting ovarian cancer, at Millennium World Outreach Church at 305 Cassel Road. The menu will be BBQ, Slaw, Beans, Dessert and a Drink for $10 a plate.
Downtown Wytheville Mayhem on Main Street Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, October 31st at 2 p.m. There will be various stations, obstacles, challenges, prizes for the best costume and for the top finishers in each age category. For more information you may call 276-223-3378.
There will be a Trunk or Treat at the Rural Retreat Heritage Park in Rural Retreat, will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 1-3 p.m. They are looking for participants who want to decorate their vehicle, dress up, pass out treats and help make Halloween a fun and safe afternoon for the kids. Baker's Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church at 3113 Ivanhoe Road, will have a Women's Ministry Craft Bazaar on Saturday, October 17th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be available for a donation. Church Street Trunk or Treat in Wytheville, will be held Saturday, October 31st, 6-8 p.m. Cars/trunks will be on display on Church Street hosted by Community Churches, First Responders, local small businesses, and hosting families handing out treats/candy.
Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department will have their Annual Fundraiser BBQ Dinner on Friday, October 16th, 3 p.m. until it's gone. The menu will be Hand Pulled Pork BBQ, Slaw, Baked Beans and a Dessert for $8 a plate or donation. This will be Drive Thru Only.
Aiden Burkentine has opened The Gray Aussie Farm Stand at 415 Windy Hill Drive in Crockett. There will be homemade sourdough and baked goodies, spice mixes, canned goods, handmade dog bandanas and more.
Those that celebrated the 91st birthday for Glenda Lowe last Saturday at the home of J.C. Lowe was Glenda, J.C., Threasa and Walker Jenkins, Jerry and Judy Lowe, Billy and Yvonne Vanover, Sarah and Kinsley Kidd. Yvonne and Sarah prepared the meal and the food was awesome.
I sure do not like having to get the sweater or light jacket out, putting a blanket on the bed or hearing the heat come on already. I sure am not ready for the cold days. I have seen some leaves already changing.
