Lord’s Acre Sale: The Annual Lord's Acre Sale will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1h, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rural Retreat Community Center. There will be homemade items, handmade items, homegrown items, and there will be gravy biscuits, sausage biscuits, country home biscuits, hot dogs and drinks.
Trade Day: Ivanhoe Fall Trade Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Jubilee Park/Show Grounds.
Poe’s Afterlife Radio Show: The Lincoln Theatre in downtown Marion will host “Edgar Allan Poe’s Afterlife Radio Show,” a live stage production, on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 with proceeds going to the Smyth County Humane Society.
Horticultural Help: On Saturday, Oct. 10, and Sunday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at the Bland County Festival of Leaves, 31 Fairgrounds Road, Bland, the Wythe Bland Region Master Gardener Association will be having a horticultural help desk booth and providing information about gardening and also apple varieties along with pruning and collecting grafting wood (scion) for starting new apple trees in the early spring. Plant-based Cooking School: Monday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 pm, at the Wytheville SDA Church, 1600 Chapman Road, Wytheville. Come and join us as we are learning ways to prevent, reverse, and/or improve pre-diabetes and type II diabetes one bite at a time in a simple, delicious way. Mayhem on Main: Downtown Wytheville Mayhem on Main Street Kids Fun Run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. There will be various stations, obstacles, challenges, prizes for the best costume and for the top finishers in each age category.

Operation Christmas Child: West End Methodist Church has been approved as a drop of location for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Collection week is Nov. 16-22. Schedule will be closer to that week on the West End Facebook page.
Library: The Friends of the Rural Retreat Public Library will meet on the second Monday of the month at the library from 2 to 3 p.m.
Radio Club: The Briarpatch Amateur Radio Club serves amateur radio operators in Southwest Virginia and northwestern North Carolina. All amateur radio operator are invited to the on-air weekly gathering held each Tuesday night at 8 p.m. with a frequency of 147.090+ and 103.5 tone.
