N.C. death investigation leads to arrest in Chilhowie

A man wanted in North Carolina on a charge of destroying human remains to conceal a death was arrest in Chilhowie on Thursday.
The case began in the early morning hours of July 20 when Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to an address in Valdese, North Carolina, regarding a suspicious death.
The BCSO and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations began an investigation into the circumstances of the death of 43-year-old Amanda Brooke Williams, of Valdese.
The next day the NC Bureau of Investigations reached out to local authorities. Investigators believed a suspect in the case was in Chilhowie.
On Thursday, July 23, investigators determined that the suspect was at a Chilhowie home, and members of the Smyth County Sheriff's Office and the Chilhowie Police Department executed a search warrant.
According to the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officers arrested Troy Allen Deese, 42, of Catawba County, North Carolina, who was wanted as a fugitive from justice by the Burke County authorities. Deese was charged with destroying human remains to conceal a death regarding the North Carolina case.
The Sheriff’s Office also said they found Selena D. Breeden, 49, of Roanoke, in the home. She was taken into custody on an active narcotics warrant from Roanoke.
Deese is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Abingdon while awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
Breeden was temporarily held at the Regional Jail.
The North Carolina investigation is active and ongoing.
