Narrows eked out a 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-18, 15-6 win over the George Wythe Maroons on Tuesday.

Wytheville Community College (WCC), in partnership with the Appalachian Warrior Foundation (AWF), will host the Dr. Thomas L. Barnes Veteran Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 9, at the Wytheville Golf Club.
Registration and a pre-tournament meal will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a shotgun tee time at 11 a.m. The event is hosted jointly by the WCC Educational Foundation and AWF to celebrate community impact and honor the enduring legacy of Dr. Thomas L. Barnes.
Barnes dedicated his life to service, education, and his community. He served as WCC’s Dean of Students, and Director of Veteran Affairs from 1972 to 2004. A retired U.S. Navy Captain who served honorably from 1964 to 2002, Dr. Barnes was deeply active in local civic organizations. The AWF established the scholarship fund to mirror his lifelong commitment to supporting veterans.
Proceeds from the tournament directly benefit the Dr. Thomas L. Barnes Scholarship Fund. Originally established in 2014 to assist WCC students who are veterans, military members, or military children, the scholarship officially expanded to also support eligible WCC students pursuing careers as first responders including police, fire, and rescue personnel.
All tournament proceeds go directly toward student financial assistance.
