Former Sen. John Watkins, R-Powhatan, said he expects a special session on the state budget.
Senate Minority Leader Ryan McDougle, R-Hanover, played a key role in getting the parties to jump-start budget talks.
Virginia has three months before the current two-year state budget ends and a new one begins — if Gov. Glenn Youngkin and the General Assembly can reach an agreement to avoid an unprecedented shutdown of state government.
“This year, we’re going to face some pretty significant financial challenges, so we have to make wise decisions,” said House Appropriations Chairman Luke Torian, D-Prince William.
