WCC receives $1.2M grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Wytheville Community College a $1,233,412 grant.
The funding comes through the Department’s Strengthening Institutions Program to help higher education institutions serve low-income students
The Strengthening Institutions Program provides funds to improve and strengthen academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability.
Mount Rogers receives grant
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the Mount Rogers Community Services Board, based in Wytheville, a $161,508 grant. The funding supports local mental health services.
“Mount Rogers Community Services leads a mental health awareness training program,” U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith said. “This HHS grant for more than $161,000 helps Mount Rogers Community Services strengthen local community access to mental health services.”
Mount Rogers Community Services Board serves the City of Galax well as Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth and Wythe counties.
In July, Mount Rogers received a $1 million HHS grant.

Griffith Announces More Than $45,000 HHS Grant to Clinch Valley Community Action, Inc. (copy)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded Clinch Valley Community Action, Inc., based in North Tazewell, a $45,552 grant. The funding supports the organization’s Head Start program. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Clinch Valley Community Action is a provider of Head Start services in Southwest Virginia.
“This grant for more than $45,000 helps Clinch Valley Community Action address regional challenges through Head Start services.”
According to its website, the Clinch Valley Community Action Head Start program operates eight classrooms in Tazewell County that serve 157 children.
Outside of Tazewell County, Clinch Valley Community Action offers Head Start programs to Bland, Smyth and Wythe Counties.
