Donald Howard Anderson Sr., age 83, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Louise Anderson and a brother-in-law, Jim Willoughby. He was a veteran of the U S Army He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Reva Anderson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Bill Fisher, Tena and Keith Hoback, and Venessa and Brian Coake; a sister, Freda Willoughby; grandchildren, Matthew & Amy Fisher, Andrew & Kayla Fisher, Kayla & Jeff Lyons, Josh and Brittany Hoback, Hannah Coake and Jacob Coake; great-grandchildren, Maddie and Macy Fisher, Ady Watson, Jordyn Fisher, Blake and Isabella Lyons, Carter and Palyn Hoback, and Hollice and Paxton Rigney. Special thanks to the healthcare providers and caregivers, Dr. Richard Card and Carillion Hospice. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Mt. Ephriam United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steve Alderman. The family received friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday July 1, 2020, at Mt. Ephriam United Methodist Church. The Interment was held Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Rosewood Cemetery, in Rural Retreat, Va. Military graveside rites were conducted by American Legion Post 9. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, is serving the Anderson family.
Glenda Leigh Justus Scott, age 55, of Bland, Va., passed away on Monday evening, July 6, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 11, 1964, in Grundy, Va. Glenda graduated from the Hurley High School in Hurley, Va., continuing her education, she went on to graduate from Bluefield College, & Walden University where she attained her Bachelor & Masters degrees. Glenda taught 5th grade at the Sheffey Elementary School from August 1996 to July of 2017. Glenda was an avid Long Distance runner and she was a faithful member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, where she served as Church Treasurer for many years She was preceded in death by her father, Clell Justus. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Jantine and Michael Hill, of Camden, Tenn.; her loving husband, Jerry W. Scott of the Home; her son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Ami Scott, of Wytheville, Va.; her sisters, Jana Montgomery of Medina, Tenn., and Kelly Justus of Camden, Tenn.; her brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Paula Justus, of Trenton, Tenn.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Debbie Scott, of Bland, Va.; five nieces, two nephews; her caregivers, Linda Boksa and Kerri Caudill; her hospice caregivers, Sharon Shewey and Deanna Hines, and a host of friends and extended family. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the Bland Funeral Chapel with the Rev Tom Maurer officiating, interment will follow in the Bland Cemetery; the family will receive friends Friday evening, July 10, 2020, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Although flowers will be appreciated, the family suggests that those who prefer may make donations to either the Bland County Rescue Squad or to the Bland County Fire Department. Lois Brewer Harden, age 98, of Centreville, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Sam O. and Nannie Funk Brewer. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Harold, and Ronald Brewer. Survivors include a sister, Opal Hanks of Rocky Mount, Va.; nephew, Samuel M. Brewer of Centreville, Va.; and a niece, Linda Edward of Kentucky. Graveside services were held 2 Pp.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Speedwell United Methodist Church with the Reverend Richard Lindamood officiating. Terry Lee "Pee Wee" Jones, age 64, of Wytheville, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Edward Jones; grandson, Wyatt Osborne; and brother, George Edward "Eddie" Jones. Pee Wee was chief starter for Elk Creek Dragway for twenty years. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Smelser Jones of Wytheville; two daughters and son-in-law, Christy Jones of Wytheville, and Niki and Dustin Osborne of Wytheville; grandchildren, Issaac Haislip of Wytheville, and Allison Osborne of Wytheville; niece, April Taylor of Indiana; and nephew and spouse, Scotty and Miranda Jones of Rural Retreat. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Reverend Scott Million. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery. William Ray Alderman, age 85, of Wytheville, Va., passed away on Wednesday July 8, 2020, at his home. He was born in Wythe Co., Va., on March 18, 1935, the son of the late Herman N. Alderman and Nannie Rider Alderman. He was a retired employee of AMSCO and was a wonderful "DAD" to all his family. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Wayne Alderman; sister, Nancy Alderman; and brothers, James Wesley Alderman and Douglas Alderman. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Paige Waller Alderman; daughters, Kathy A. Coley and Sherry A. Jones, all of Wytheville; grandchildren, Allyson Jones, Alicia Goodwin, and Debra Dice; great-grandchildren, Hanna, Miranda, Sara, and Mikey; sister, Joann Caudill of Wytheville; and brother, Donald Alderman of N.C.. A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2020, at the West End Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Crigger officiating. Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va. is serving the Alderman family.
